Owners of an electric car can produce renewable electricity on their own property with a solar carport. A single carport with a solar roof provides a perfect surface for installing a solar system with a capacity of up to three kilowatt hours. Even if the car is not always connected to the carport when the sun is shining, the solar power yield is still not to be despised.
If the car owners are at home, the car charges itself with solar power. If the car is driven, the solar power produced can be used elsewhere in the household. Another option is to feed the surplus solar power into the public grid. This process also works the other way around: a fully charged electric car can supply the household with solar power if, for example, there is not enough electricity to use the household appliances.
In addition, a solar carport impresses with its open and simple design and always offers the car a shady place in the sunshine. Due to the open design, good air circulation is guaranteed. Solar carports have an intelligent control technology. There are also subsidies for solar systems installed on the carport or garage, for example from the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW).
