Energy advice: How to save energy in the home

The consumer center's energy advice service has been providing information and advice on the subject of energy and energy consumption in Germany since 1978. One of the main goals is to support and inform private consumers about how they can save energy in the home and in everyday life and sustainably protect the environment. This is because energy consumption is particularly high in the home: for example, experts say that around a quarter of annual energy consumption comes from private households.

Even though energy standards in new buildings as well as the renovation of old buildings make a significant contribution to reducing energy, it is important that consumers monitor and change their behavior. Whether through the use of household appliances in the kitchen or through the use of technology in leisure time as well as in the home office, energy use is enormous. In the free "Basic Check", consumers can check how high their electricity and heat consumption actually is and which household appliances consume the most energy. Consumers get tips on how they can save energy and reduce costs with simple behaviors.

Interested parties will also find a wealth of information on many other topics relating to energy saving. For example, they can find tips on what to look out for in a home office, the savings potential of a smart home system, and what they need to know about energy certificates. The consumer advice center's energy consulting service also offers numerous consulting services, an overview of nearby advice centers and a glossary of "energy knowledge". Interested parties can also find out about funding opportunities and contact an energy advisor.
