In a draft law to accelerate the expansion of solar systems for power generation on buildings (Solar System Expansion Acceleration Act - SolarBeschlG), the Greens demand that in the future the installation and operation of photovoltaic systems on roof surfaces of new and, in the case of renovations, also existing buildings, be mandatory throughout Germany.
The new law is to apply to new buildings for which a building permit is applied for after June 1, 2022, or to existing buildings that receive a new roof covering after this date. However, exceptions are also to apply, for example if the measures cannot be carried out due to the protection of historical monuments or if the roof already has to be greened.
The law is intended to help combat the climate crisis. The draft law follows on from laws in individual federal states that have already introduced a solar obligation - for example in Hamburg, Berlin and Baden-Württemberg. The complete draft law can be viewed via the Documentation and Information System for Parliamentary Materials of the German Bundestag.
