The German Furniture Quality Association (DGM) points out that customers who want to buy particularly high-quality furniture can look out for the RAL "Golden M" quality mark. This label is awarded to furniture that is particularly durable, safe, functional, and compatible with health and the environment.
Before they receive the quality mark, they are extensively tested, according to the DGM. They are tested in a test laboratory at a temperature of 23 degrees. This temperature corresponds to the average room temperature in German homes. In the test laboratory, machines not only generate a humidity of 50 percent, but also mimic the stresses to which the furniture is exposed.
In addition, the furniture is subjected to chemical testing and pollutant testing in the testing laboratory to ensure health and environmental compatibility. Furniture with the RAL quality mark must pass all tests. According to the DGM, the test criteria are particularly strict for children's furniture. The spacing of the grids on children's beds, for example, is not only a question of quality, but also of safety.
