Baufi barometer: Desire for home ownership unbroken

Despite the sharp rise in real estate and land prices, Germans are still happy to invest in their own homes and the number of loan agreements is holding "at a consistently high level". This is the conclusion reached by ING Deutschland on the basis of the Baufi Barometer. Based on the question "How does Germany finance?", the construction financing data of ING customers from 2016 to 2021 was evaluated on an anonymized basis.

Among other things, ING Deutschland found that the average loan volume increased by 40 percent from 2016 to 2021, from 251,000 to 348,000 euros. The highest loans are paid out in Bavaria with an average of 449,000 euros, the lowest in Saarland with an average of 236,000 euros. The bank attributes this development to higher prices.

These and other results emerge from the Baufi Barometer. ING Germany granted around 56,500 loan agreements in 2021 (up to the end of November). In 2020, the bank recorded around 56,900 loan agreements, in 2019 around 45,400, in 2018 around 52,300, in 2017 around 49,500 and in 2016 around 55,300.
