Craft: German tilers want to defend title

At the PCI Alpine Cup in Augsburg, 14 up-and-coming tilers from 14 nations will compete against each other from Thursday, July 7, to Friday, July 8. Philip Großkopf from Flensburg and Malte Laurich from Vreden will take part for Germany. The two already won the PCI Alpine Cup last year and now want to defend their titles.

The two have already demonstrated their skills at the qualifying competition in Seebruck in Upper Bavaria. In this competition, the participants had to tile a shower with a convex, i.e. outwardly curved, side of the front wall within 22 hours. In addition to Philip Großkopf and Malte Laurich, Yannic Schlachter, who will be taking part in the WorldSkills in China in October, also showed his skills.

He had to relocate the statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro as well as the national flag of Brazil and the country outline. Team manager Andreas Beyer drew a positive conclusion after the qualification: "For outsiders, no differences were recognizable." Competitions such as the PCI Alpine Cup or the WorldSkills serve to promote young talent or the profession. In Germany, the national tile team is supported by more than 20 partner companies of the Central Association of the German Construction Industry.
