Solar Decathlon Europe: sustainable building event

The Solar Decathlon Europe, according to the organizers the world's largest university competition for sustainable building and living, is being held in Germany for the first time. The event is also open to the general public: from Friday, June 10, to Sunday, June 26, visitors can learn more about sustainable building and living, architecture and climate protection at first hand there with free admission.

On display will be, among other things, 18 fully furnished, one- to two-story house prototypes in which the students rely on environmentally friendly building materials such as straw and hemp, organic building materials such as mushrooms, solar cells and photovoltaics, modern ventilation and heating systems, and green facades and roof gardens. Visitors can also explore the world's first 3D-printed cellulose-based building.

At the Solar Decathlon Europe, there will be a different thematic focus on each day of the event - from architecture and design to wood construction and craftsmanship to interior design and lighting design. Admission to the Solar Decathlon Europe is free. For organizational reasons, visitors need free tickets. These are available in advance on the event website or for individuals also on site at the Alte Glaserei, Juliusstraße 12, Wuppertal.
