In Hamburg, the Department of Urban Development and Housing would like to learn more about the housing needs, housing situation and housing wishes of residents. For this reason, 25,000 randomly selected households are now being sent a questionnaire by mail. Interviews will also be conducted with residents who have moved from the city to the surrounding area. The aim of the surveys is to better tailor Hamburg's new housing construction policy to the various target groups.
In addition, the authority also hopes to receive information on the housing market, the housing industry and neighborhood developments. "We want housing to remain affordable, for many people in Hamburg to be able to afford housing on reasonable terms, and for the new apartments - whether privately financed or publicly subsidized - to match people's different lifestyles in terms of functionality and typology," says Dr. Dorothee Stapelfeldt, Senator for Urban Development and Housing.
The studies are being scientifically accompanied by HafenCity University Hamburg in cooperation with the ALP research institute. According to the Authority for Urban Development and Housing, more than 119,000 new apartments have been approved in Hamburg since 2011 and 85,000 apartments have been completed. However, the authority says, residents' housing needs can change. It therefore also hopes for lively participation in the surveys.
