How would people in Germany like to live in old age? Ipos GmbH investigated this question on behalf of "Apotheken Umschau". The focus was on the so-called baby boomers, i.e. respondents from the age groups between 50 and 64. The results showed that more than half of the respondents (53 percent) could imagine living in a multigenerational house in their old age.
Other forms of moving in together are also an option for those surveyed (37 percent). In addition, 34 percent of respondents can imagine subletting part of their apartment to younger people if it becomes too big for them alone. 29 percent of respondents want to look for a smaller apartment when they get older.
Although the majority of respondents (76 percent) believe that help from family and neighbors will become increasingly important in old age, they would like to remain independent for as long as possible. To this end, 50 percent of respondents would rely on smart home solutions that allow them to remotely control appliances, for example. A total of 1,000 people aged 14 and over were surveyed for the study, 267 of them from the relevant age group.
