Insurers like to invest in real estate. This is the result of the study "Trendbarometer Immobilienanlagen der Assekuranz" (Trend Barometer Real Estate Investments of the Insurance Industry) by the tax consulting firm EY. The so-called real estate ratio of 12.1 percent was higher than at any time since the surveys began in 2008. However, the study also shows that insurers are becoming more cautious.
For example, half of the insurers surveyed said they would like to increase the real estate ratio even further. Last year, however, two-thirds of respondents still wanted to increase the real estate ratio. In addition, 45 percent of the insurers surveyed this year are in favor of keeping the real estate ratio the same, and 5 percent of the insurers even want to lower it.
For the "Trendbarometer Real Estate Investments of the Insurance Industry", a survey was conducted in May 2022 among 30 leading insurers, including pension funds as well as life insurance and reinsurance companies.
