How can a site like the one at the Heidingsfelder Mainufer in Würzburg be upgraded? This was the question addressed by students of the Geovisualization course at the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences. Under the motto "Living on the waterfront," they had to develop designs that combine the areas of living, working and leisure.
The challenge here was the size of the area: According to lecturer Stefan Sauer, it is an area 530 meters long and 42,000 square meters in area. In addition, the students had to incorporate the results of the integrated district development concept and a citizens' survey into their plans and present their designs not only to the lecturer but also to Peter Wiegand and Uwe Kömpel from the Planning Department of the City of Würzburg and the architect Matthias Braun.
The students made various suggestions: From a swimming pool integrated into the river to a Tiny House settlement with colorful shipping containers to a site for the street art scene - the 14 students present creative ideas.
