Energy transition: TH Köln wants to create more acceptance

Through the interdisciplinary project "MEnergie - Meine Energiewende" (MEnergy - My Energy Transition), Cologne University of Applied Sciences (TH Köln), in collaboration with partners from the education, energy and technology sectors, aims to create greater acceptance for the energy transition in society. Among other things, social media as well as virtual and augmented reality will be used for this purpose.

"Due to their immersive character, AR and VR technologies enable an active experience of the complex interrelationships of the energy transition," says Dr. Valerie Varney from the Institute for Product Development and Design Technology. For example, she says, it can be used to show what a wind turbine looks like behind one's own house.

A particular focus of the project will be on the target group of 42- to 10-year-olds because, according to TH Köln, they are the current and future decision-makers with regard to real estate, vehicles and consumer goods. The project is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection until November 2024, with around 955,000 euros in funding.
