Energy: 2/3 of Germans are willing to heat less

Putting on a sweater, wrapping up a blanket and heating less - that's what two-thirds of Germans would be willing to do in the winter to help make Germany more independent of energy supplies from Russia. This is the result of a survey conducted by the forsa opinion research institute on behalf of the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) for the DBU Environmental Monitor "Energiewende und Wohnen".

Those aged 18 to 29 (73 percent) would be most likely to put this plan into action, followed by those over 60 (65 percent) and those aged 30 to 59 (62 percent). Overall, slightly more women (68 percent) than men (61 percent) are willing to heat less, according to the survey. In addition to these results, the survey also shows that most respondents (87 percent) consider energy efficiency measures on buildings to be very important or important.

According to DBU Secretary General Alexander Bonde, the building sector is "a decisive key to solving the energy policy tasks". The DBU Secretary General explains: "We have to tackle the old building stock. It is about energy efficiency, energy saving and the expansion of renewable energies and helps against the climate crisis. At the same time, this leads to independence from fossil fuels and energy imports from abroad." For the survey, 1,000 citizens aged 18 and over and around 1,000 homeowners from Germany were questioned.
