56 percent of German tenants consider their rent to be reasonable, 12 percent consider it to be low and 7 percent even consider it to be very low. This is the finding of the "Servicemonitor Wohnen" study conducted by the consulting firm Analyse & Konzepte immo.consult. Only 18 percent of those surveyed feel their rent is too high and only 7 percent feel it is much too high.
However, the perception differs depending on the target group. So-called starter households, which include 18- to 29-year-olds with their first apartment of their own, perceive their rent as low or very low. The reason for this is that they compare prices. Long-term tenants who benefit from low existing rents also perceive their rent as low or very low.
If we take a closer look at the target groups, we see that single parents in particular rate their rent as high (25 percent) or as far too high (10 percent). "Single parents can often only work to a limited extent, but compete on the housing market with dual-earner families and childless couples who have a larger budget," explains Katrin Trunec Analyse & Konzepte immo.consult. Also in view of the rising additional costs this particularly strongly disadvantaged target group may not be lost sight of.
