Semi-detached house: BDF points out advantages

The German Prefabricated Housing Association (BDF) points out the advantages of buying semi-detached houses. The advantages are, for example, lower construction and land costs and low energy costs compared to single-family homes, it says. The reasons are that the construction and land costs are shared by two parties and that semi-detached houses are built in a particularly energy-saving way, according to the BDF.

Land area can also be saved by building a semi-detached house. In addition, according to the BDF, semi-detached houses can now often be designed individually instead of asymmetrically as in the past, provided that the development plan permits this. Thus, not only is the creation of two different housing units possible on the inside, but even the façade design and roof shape can differ.

According to the BDF, manufacturers of prefabricated wooden houses are registering a lively interest in semi-detached houses. Therefore, they had already developed special floor plan and architectural concepts. "They show building family homes that can be realized affordably and individually despite high land prices and rising construction interest rates, and on top of that are particularly energy-efficient and future-proof," says BDF managing director Achim Hannott.
