Business: German furniture industry sees growth potential in North America

The German Furniture Industry Association (VDM) sees growth potential for its activities in the North American market. "The market offers interesting growth opportunities for our manufacturers not only in stationary sales, but also in the online channel in particular," says Jan Kurth, Managing Director of the German Furniture Industry Associations (VDM/VHK).

These assumptions are based on a study on the furniture market in North America with a focus on online sales, which VDM commissioned from management consultants Conneum and Modenus Media. According to study author Elmar Stumpf of Conneum, high-quality furniture is particularly in demand in North America. "In addition, the modern, minimalist furnishing style that characterizes German furniture is becoming increasingly popular in North America," says co-author Veronika Miller of Modenus Media.

According to VDM, the United States is the most important export market for the German furniture industry outside Europe. German furniture worth 145 million euros was exported to the USA in the first half of 2022. According to VDM, this is almost 26 percent more than in the same period last year. To expand contacts, VDM members participate in events such as "KBIS - The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show," the largest kitchen trade show in the United States.
