Many people are not aware of this. If nursing home residents wish to apply for housing allowance, however, they must observe special regulations.
For example, the housing allowance is not based on the individual rent amount, but on the rent index in the region of the nursing home. Nursing home residents must also disclose their finances and also submit numerous documents in order to benefit from the housing allowance.
In addition to the housing allowance application for nursing home residents, the documents include pension statements, proof of assets and current bank statements. The background to this is that housing benefit is only available to people who, for example, cannot pay their rent independently. However, housing allowance is only a subsidy for housing costs.
