Online owners' meetings: wiE criticizes

The consumer protection association Wohnen im Eigentum (WiE) has once again criticized the plans of the Federal Ministry of Justice (BMJ) to require a 3/4 majority to hold online owners' meetings. This would undermine owners' rights. Despite headwinds, the BMJ has presented a draft that is intended to facilitate such purely digital meetings.

The planned changes provide for online meetings to be made possible without the consent of all participants. According to WiE, this would favor administrations and the housing industry and exclude owners who do not have internet access or the necessary technology. In addition, a purely digital meeting would not offer the opportunity for personal interaction that is possible at physical meetings.

The WiE also fears that online meetings could become the standard. The reason for this fear is that the introduction of online-only meetings can be limited to three years. "Apparently, only the interests of property management associations and the housing industry are being listened to by the BMJ," criticizes WiE board member Gabriele Heinrich.
