The Wind Energy Competence Center at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig was recently opened by Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck. It is home to a facility that can measure the immense torques that occur in offshore wind turbines in particular with extreme precision.
The newly developed "torque standard measuring device" is able to measure various technical parameters that are of crucial importance for the safe and efficient operation of wind turbines.
PTB is a national metrology institute with 2,200 employees in Braunschweig and Berlin. It ensures measurements in many technical areas, including wind energy. PTB also provides test methods for transformation technologies such as heat pumps, e-charging stations and photovoltaics.
