Saving energy: Efficient preparation for your vacation

A vacation trip is the perfect time to reduce energy consumption. This is the conclusion reached by the energy advice service of the consumer advice center. It suggests a number of measures to identify energy guzzlers at home and save money. One strategy is to only switch on appliances when they are needed. Otherwise, care should be taken to ensure that the appliances are actually switched off. This is because computers, games consoles and other entertainment electronics in standby mode can contribute to high electricity bills.

Before going on vacation, take a tour of the rooms to ensure that no appliance is overlooked. Some appliances, such as routers, can consume more electricity than an economical fridge. They should therefore be disconnected from the mains. It may also be worth defrosting fridges and freezers before your vacation to reduce electricity consumption while you are away.

In addition to the tips mentioned above, the energy advice service of the consumer advice center also offers tools for monitoring energy consumption. Energy consumption can be recorded and checked using electricity meters and the meter check card. If you have any questions or uncertainties, the energy advice service of the consumer advice center offers free consultations, which can take place online, by telephone (0800 - 809 802 400) or in person.
