Sustainability: generating energy from wastewater

A so-called ThermWin system from Huber SE, which recovers energy from wastewater, is used for heating and cooling in the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte in Regensburg. The ThermWin system works by means of a specially developed wastewater heat exchanger in conjunction with a heat pump.

The efficiency of the system is increased by fully automatic self-cleaning, which ensures a permanently high and constant heat transfer performance. In addition to its successful implementation in Germany, the ThermWin process is also used internationally.

At the Klinikum rechts der Isar hospital in Munich, the technology is used to heat the incoming drinking water, thus reducing the use of electricity. In Canada, the Toronto Western Hospital is supplied with energy by 16 wastewater heat exchangers.
