Building projects: Independent experts can safeguard interests

According to the Association of Private Building Owners (VPB), private building owners should engage their own independent experts on the construction site. For turnkey projects, construction companies often present architects as "your architect". However, the word "your" can be misleading.

The planner or architect introduced by the construction company primarily has duties to their employer, and not necessarily the interests of the client in mind. As they are often in the service of the building contractor, their loyalties may lie more with the company. According to the VPB, they are not primarily there to warn clients of potential problems or point out defects.

The VPB therefore strongly advises private builders to consult independent experts. Such experts can help builders to maintain an overall view and safeguard their own rights and interests throughout the entire construction process.
