The number of dormitory places for students and trainees planned under the social housing promotion scheme has more than doubled this year thanks to the "Young Housing" funding program. This is according to a press release from the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building.
While around 2,700 new dormitory places were planned for 2022, the number will rise to around 5,700 in 2023. With the planned modernization, there will be 3,500 places this year compared to 1,400 in the previous year.
The aim of the program is to provide affordable housing for young people, particularly in large cities. It is a sub-programme of social housing construction that promotes both new builds and modernizations. 500 million euros have been earmarked by the Federal Building Ministry for the funding programme. The federal states are responsible for implementing the program. The federal-state program "Young Housing" is a sub-program of social housing construction.
