According to the German Furniture Quality Association (DGM), box spring systems are also becoming increasingly popular in the living room. Jochen Winning, Managing Director of the DGM, emphasizes that box spring sofas offer the same comfort as their bed-based counterparts. The structure of such a sofa is similar to that of a bed: a spring box as the base, with a cushion on top, possibly supplemented by a further layer of upholstery.
At first glance, it is not always possible to tell whether it is a sofa with or without a box spring system. This is because the multi-layer structure is hidden inside the sofa. According to Jochen Winning, box-spring sofas are generally firmer than other upholstered furniture and support an ergonomic sitting or reclining position. The range of box spring sofas is huge, both in terms of design and functionality.
As the term "box spring" is not protected, the DGM Managing Director advises potential buyers to look out for the RAL "Golden M" quality mark when purchasing this type of furniture. According to the DGM, this seal guarantees independent testing for safety, durability and environmental compatibility.
