Expert opinion: More affordable housing construction possible?

The GdW Federal Association of German Housing and Real Estate Companies points out that a current legal opinion by Prof. Stefan Leupertz sheds light on the possibility of using simpler standards in construction contract law to build more cheaply without compromising the quality of living. According to the GdW, the current strict DIN standards often lead to unnecessarily high construction costs.

The report recommends legal changes to enable simplified and more cost-effective construction methods with legal certainty. This could enable significantly lower construction prices while maintaining good housing standards. A look at other European countries shows that there is considerable scope for such simplifications, which could be exploited.

Finally, it is emphasized that a decoupling of the contractual performance obligations from the recognized rules of technology is necessary in order to enable cheaper and yet high-quality standards. Anyone interested in learning more about the topic or the legal opinion can find it at: gdw.de.
