75 percent of people in German households are reconsidering their housing situation due to financial aspects. In urban areas, 25 percent of respondents state that they spend more than 40 percent of their income on housing costs. As a result, there is an increased preference for living in rural areas. Satisfaction with housing also appears to be particularly high there at 76%. This was revealed by a study conducted by the Technical University of Darmstadt in collaboration with Baufi24.
The trend away from central urban areas towards rural and suburban locations is characterized by rising housing costs in urban locations and increasing environmental awareness. 68% of respondents see proximity to nature as an important factor in their quality of life. Digital infrastructure is playing an increasingly important role, especially for those moving to more rural areas and working from home.
Study director Dr. Andreas Pfnür, professor at the Department of Real Estate Management and Construction Management at the Technical University of Darmstadt, emphasizes the need for political measures to promote rural regions. This is because 43 percent of those surveyed are considering moving, but are faced with the challenge of not being able to find suitable living space. On the one hand, Dr. Andreas Pfnür sees the move to the countryside as an opportunity to ease the pressure on urban housing markets. On the other hand, there is also a risk for new urban construction projects that do not meet the needs of the population and are difficult to sell.sources: presseportal.de/news.baufi24.de
