Energy: Research for security in the future

The Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) is receiving funding of around 4.3 million euros from the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg. This budget is earmarked for measures to increase energy efficiency and to safeguard research operations in the face of current energy challenges.

The funding will be used for structural changes and technical investments, including the installation of rooftop solar panels, the refurbishment of work buildings and the conversion to energy-saving LED lighting. These measures are intended to significantly reduce external energy consumption and contribute to a long-term reduction in energy costs.

In addition to direct energy savings, the investments enable more intensive research in the field of resource-saving plant production. Among other things, the question of how food can be secured regionally and globally against the backdrop of climate change will be investigated.
