The provision of affordable housing by employers, known as "employee housing", is once again gaining importance in Germany. A recent study by the "RegioKontext" institute shows that companies from various sectors, from craft businesses to large corporations, are becoming increasingly involved in this area.
According to Ingeborg Esser, Managing Director of the GdW Federal Association of German Housing and Real Estate Companies, employee housing could be an important solution component for many companies in Germany in view of the "simultaneous shortage of housing and skilled workers". However, politicians must provide even more support for employee housing in the future so that it can gain momentum.
Solutions such as industrial prefabrication in residential construction, intelligent use of space and sustainable energy concepts are presented as ways to make the construction of employee housing more efficient and cost-effective. In addition, current tax and legal framework conditions that can facilitate the realization of such housing projects are discussed. The study "Employee housing - Affordable housing becomes a location factor" can be downloaded free of charge from the gdw.de website.
