Deutsche Bank and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have initiated a loan programme to support environmentally friendly housing construction and energy-efficient modernization in Germany. The program provides for the provision of low-interest loans with a total volume of over 600 million euros to private individuals. However, the relevant construction projects and refurbishment measures must meet strict environmental criteria in order to receive funding.
A guarantee from the EIB for a mezzanine tranche - a type of interim financing consisting of investments and loans - enables improved conditions, which Deutsche Bank passes on to its customers. The loans are offered via Deutsche Bank, DSL-Bank and BHW-Bausparkasse. This measure is intended not only to facilitate access to financing, but also to help reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
The banks emphasize the importance of this initiative. They see the promotion of environmentally friendly housing concepts as an important step towards improving the ecological footprint of residential properties in Germany and reducing energy costs in the long term.
