Construction: VPB gives tips on dealing with damage

When discovering unclear moisture damage or mold growth, it is crucial not to start any hasty repairs. These can often destroy evidence that is important for clarifying responsibilities. The Association of Private Building Owners (VPB) points this out. Instead, Marc Ellinger, head of the VPB regional office in Freiburg-Südbaden, advises calm and careful documentation of the damage.

Before taking any further steps, owners should inform their insurance company and, if necessary, the property management company. In the event of damage during the warranty period, the responsible construction company must also be informed. In emergencies, however, owners are obliged to act immediately to minimize damage. They can do this either by intervening themselves or by contacting the appropriate emergency services. If damage occurs, comprehensive photographic documentation is essential so that the cause and responsibility can be clarified later.
