In terms of net electricity generation, photovoltaics, among others, increased from 2021 to 2022. This was reported by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE. According to the report, solar power generation increased by 19 percent from 2021 to 2022. The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE attributes this on the one hand to the expansion and on the other hand to the sunny weather.
In total, German photovoltaic systems generated around 58 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2022. Of this, around 53 TWh were fed into the public grid and 5 TWh were consumed by the grid itself. The addition of 6.1 gigawatts of EEG plants also increased installed capacity to approximately 66 gigawatts (as of November 2022). According to the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, this was the highest increase in photovoltaic capacity since 2013.
