Study: interesting facts about the future of city centers

What is the future of city centers? This is the question addressed by a number of experts in the "cima.monitor Deutschlandstudie Innenstadt 2022" study. One of the results is that a significant proportion of people will no longer return to the city centers for shopping under current conditions. According to the study, small towns with up to 10,000 inhabitants are particularly affected by this development.

However, the study also shows that a large proportion of respondents (85 percent) would like their city centers to continue to offer them numerous shopping opportunities in the future. Among other things, it is important to the respondents that there is more greenery in their city center (85.9 percent) and that they have the opportunity to participate in processes to redesign their city center (85.2 percent). According to the study, downtowns also become more attractive to visitors if they take care of digitization. This is because it is important to visitors, for example, to be able to find out in advance about events (75.5 percent), shopping services (73.0 percent) and parking options (66.9 percent).

The study, which CIMA Beratung + Management published together with the German Trade Association, the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce, Haus & Grund Deutschland, HBB Hanseatische Betreuungs- und Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH, RKW Architektur + GmbH and Lenz und Johlen Rechtsanwälte Partnerschaft mbH, is available free of charge at cimamonitor.de/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/deutschlandstudie_innenstadt_2022.pdf.
