With the help of so-called "digital twins," the Free State of Bavaria wants to become a modern digital state. A "digital twin" is the mapping of an object from the real world into the virtual world. The aim is to use the digital twins to simulate various processes. These can be situations from road traffic, for example. The digital twins will also be used to find out how energy efficiency in cities can be increased.
Currently, municipalities are still being sought that would like to participate in the project "TwinBy - Digital Twins for Bavaria". Currently, up to 20 projects of Bavarian municipalities can be tested. The municipalities will receive support from the Bavarian Digital Ministry in setting up the digital twins and will, for example, be advised on questions by selected service providers. A prerequisite for participation is that employees from the specialist and IT departments commit at least eight hours per week to the project.
Applications can be submitted, for example, by administrative communities, associations of municipalities, special-purpose associations and integrated rural developments. Corresponding funding applications can still be submitted until Tuesday, January 31. The promotion requests are examined by the Bavaria innovative GmbH as project executing agency for the fulfilment of the conditions. If the requirements are met, however, the funding notices for the projects will be issued according to their time of receipt, the so-called priority principle.
