Improvements in the framework conditions for new construction, special depreciation for affordable rental housing in tight housing markets and more incentives for home ownership - these are the demands made by the German Federal Association of Building Materials, Stone and Earth, the German Construction Industry Federation, the German Construction Industry Federation (ZDB) and the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts in their position paper "Maintaining the economic engine of construction, advancing climate protection".
"It is [...] absolutely urgent to massively increase new construction subsidies and introduce declining balance depreciation options for investors [...], if only to finance the additional costs of rising statutory standards and generate more momentum in residential construction," says Tim-Oliver Müller, CEO of the German Construction Industry Association, for example.
The ZDB fears that the Ukraine war will lead to an economic crisis in Europe and Germany and a significant drop in orders in the construction industry. In this context, the association refers to figures from the ifo Institute. According to these, 17 percent of residential construction companies were affected by cancellations in September 2022. New orders in residential construction fell by 24 percent in real terms from August 2021 to August 2022. Interested parties can download the full position paper free of charge at zdb.de.
