In the "Climate-Active Municipality 2022" competition, ten municipalities that are particularly committed to climate protection received prize money of 25,000 euros each. In the "Resources and Energy Efficiency" category, the city of Mindelheim was honored for the energy-efficient refurbishment of the Maria Theresia outdoor pool, the district of Viersen for the climate-friendly new construction of the central district archive, and the district of Lörrach for inter-municipal heating planning.

In the "Climate-friendly mobility" category, the city of Darmstadt was honored for the implementation of its sustainable and climate-friendly mobility concept in the Lincoln-Siedlung. The district of Pinneberg received the prize money for its digital electric vehicle fleet and the city of Bielefeld for the "3 Months without a Car" project, in which Bielefeld residents were able to test being mobile without a car with municipal support.

In addition, the municipality of Nohfelden, the city of Münster and the city of Amberg received awards in the "Climate-friendly administration" category. The municipalities and cities are committed to minimizing CO2 emissions in their administrations, for example. The special prize in the "Climate protection and nature conservation" category was awarded to the Lake Constance district for the restoration of the Hepbacher-Leimbacher Ried marshes. The prize money will in turn be used for climate protection. For more information on the projects and the current competition, visit klimaschutz.de.
