In the study "Hallo Nachbar*in - Die große Schweizer Nachbarschaftsstudie" (Hello Neighbor*in - The Great Swiss Neighborhood Study), the Swiss investigated how neighborhoods function in Switzerland and what types of neighborhoods exist. Based on an empirical representative quantitative survey and a qualitative study, the GDI Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute concludes that "neighborhoods in Switzerland [function] remarkably well [...]."
The relationship between neighbors is one of distance, but at the same time they trust each other. According to the GDI, neighbors do not want to make any commitments to each other, but they do help each other - and, for example, they took over minor errands for each other during the pandemic. However, according to the GDI, the pandemic did not lead to a lasting change in the relationship between the neighbors.
The study, conducted by GDI in May 2022 and answering questions such as "Do you wish you had more contact with your neighbors?", highlighting neighborhood relationships and examining neighborhoods in transition, can be found by interested parties at https://gdi.ch/publikationen/studien.
