How does a sustainable construction turnaround succeed? This was recently examined by the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Organization IAO together with several real estate industry associations and chambers. They identified over 100 trends, which they summarized in three future scenarios. According to the IAO, the three scenarios are “#innovationiskey”, “#greenregulation” and “#heritagefortomorrow”.
Scenario 1, #innovationiskey, assumes that planning, execution and operation in the construction and real estate industry are closely interlinked, including through digital processes. In scenario 2, green regulation, the construction and real estate industry is influenced by the regulations for achieving the climate goals. In scenario 3, #heritagefortomorrow, the construction and real estate industry will, among other things, return to regional building types and ecosystems.
In general, according to the ILO, it can be said that in all three scenarios, the achievement of the climate targets plays a major role. In addition to the IAO, the research team includes the Main Association of the Construction Industry HDB, the Federal Chamber of Architects BAK, the Federal Chamber of Engineers BIngK, the Association of German Mechanical and Plant Engineering VDMA, the Central Real Estate Committee ZIA and the Central Association of the German Construction Industry ZDB.
