In 2021, more houses were built in Germany using prefabricated timber construction methods. This was reported by the German Prefabricated Construction Association (BDF). The trend is continuing, especially for multi-family houses. In prefabricated timber construction, wall and ceiling elements are assembled on the construction site in a short time - a house is built.
According to the BDF, 14,043 new multifamily homes were approved nationwide from January to September 2021 - 728 of them in prefabricated construction. Compared with the same period of the previous year, prefabricated construction in this sector grew by 13.9 percent and thus more strongly than the overall market. The latter grew by only 5.5 percent compared with the prior-year period.
The BDF assumes that more multi-family houses will be built using prefabricated timber construction in the future and sees numerous reasons for this. For example, all services are provided from a single source, the construction phase is easy to plan and drying times can be avoided through the use of wood.
