Study: Mobile communications standard influences real estate value

The mobile communications standard 5G, which enables high-speed data transmission, may have an impact on the value of real estate. This is the result of a study entitled "Value impact of mobile communications systems on land prices for single-family home use in rural areas". Heribert Franz Pölzl submitted this to the Department of Building and Environment at Danube University Krems in Austria in May 2021.

Pölzl surveyed brokers for the study. They stated that real estate brokerage in areas without sufficient mobile communications coverage had become difficult. According to the study, good mobile communications coverage with high bandwidths, as made possible by 5G, is now just as much a part of residential real estate as electricity, water, sewage systems and other infrastructure.

The study also shows that since the Corona pandemic, people looking for real estate have been attaching greater importance to appropriate mobile communications coverage, including existing bandwidth. The 5G mobile communications standard is the successor to LTE and offers increasing transmission speeds while simultaneously reducing costs and low energy consumption.
