Tip: winterize the roof

The Association of Private Building Owners (VPB) advises owners to winterize their homes. They should pay particular attention to the roof. Loose tiles could fall down during storms, and defective tiles with small cracks could cause the roof to leak. As a result, moisture can penetrate the house and mold can develop.

Owners should commission an expert with the maintenance of a pitched roof, whereas the flat roof can often be checked and spruced up themselves. The VPB also advises cleaning drains and connections and sweeping autumn leaves from the roof. If damage to the roof can be seen, an expert should also be commissioned.

In addition, the inspection of the connections and terminations around the chimney and the vent pipes as well as the skylights - including the rain gutters and drains - would also be useful in this context.
