When it comes to the exterior facade of a house, a plastered exterior wall is one of the most common facade constructions in Germany. It does not matter whether the wall is made of stone or wood. Plaster is a mixture of various solids such as sand, marble gravel or plastic particles. The mixture of solids is composed of binders and additives and defined by the mixing ratio.
There are two types of plaster facades: Facades made of mineral plaster or synthetic resin facades. Since mineral plasters are often delivered in a dry state in bags, they are also referred to as bagged goods. This bagged material must be mixed with water before the compound can be applied to the exterior wall. Typical binders for mineral plaster facades are mainly cement, building lime or gypsum. Lime-cement plaster is also ideal for use in damp rooms.
Unlike mineral plaster, synthetic resin plaster is supplied ready for use. It only needs to be stirred before use. Synthetic resin plaster is also well suited for interior use. It consists of organic binders and is produced synthetically by polymerization, polyaddition or polycondensation. The raw materials of synthetic resins often have a natural origin, such as alkyd resins. However, the final product supplied is highly modified. Synthetic resin is characterized above all by its hardness and abrasion resistance.
