This year, the non-profit consulting company co2online has once again published the "Heizspiegel für Deutschland. In the Heizspiegel and with the help of the "online heating cost calculator" on the co2online website, tenants and owners can analyze their energy consumption. Thanks to a compilation of comparative values from 147,000 heatable buildings in Germany, users can classify their personal consumption and see whether their heating energy consumption and costs are within a reasonable range or whether they are too high.

The calculations of the "Heizspiegel 2020" refer to the accounting year 2019. According to this, the heating costs in a 70 square meter apartment, which is operated by a central gas heating system, range between 485 and 1,030 euros. In addition to the choice of energy source, the main factor behind the varying energy costs is the state of renovation of the house. The experts at co2online point out that residents of an apartment building that is in poor energy condition have to pay about half as much in heating costs as in newly built properties or in apartment buildings that have been renovated for energy efficiency.

Interested parties who want to check their heating cost consumption can enter their data from the last heating bill into the online heating cost calculator. With numerous tips, consumers can also find out how they can be more energy-efficient in their everyday lives and save money at the same time. They can also find out which energy source is particularly suitable for their needs. Heating with wood pellets, for example, is an energy-friendly and inexpensive option. On average, the cost in 2019 was about 590 euros. In contrast, heating with district heating is in the upper price segment at an average of 890 euros per year.
