Research project: EnergyTWIN

In building planning, not only the location or the architecture plays an important role, but also the technical equipment of the building or the planning and routing of power and water lines. Nowadays, construction projects and building design are planned in Building Information Modeling (BIM). But no matter how good the digital building design may be, reality often causes unexpected problems.

The research project "Energy Diagnostic Plug Digital Twin - EnergyTWIN" aims to optimize BIM through the use of artificial intelligence as well as detailed and specific visualizations of building technology and augmented reality. Different new methods and techniques will then be used to capture and develop, for example, links and functions, communication structures, and plant technology for building information models. Over a period of 3.5 years, the "EnergyTwin" project will not only test the commissioning of buildings and optimize processes, but also research and further develop energy-saving potential.

The project "EnergyTwin" is a joint project of the Geodetic Institute and Chair of Building Informatics & Geoinformation Systems (gia) of RWTH Aachen University and the Chair of Energy Efficient Building (E3D). The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).
