WEG meeting under hygiene and safety regulations

The hygiene and safety regulations proclaimed by the effects of the Corona pandemic must also be observed in condominium owners' meetings. The regulations and rules of conduct for WEG meetings differ from state to state and are set out in the respective applicable legal ordinances of the state governments. In addition, the association "Wohnen im Eigentum - Die Wohneigentümer e. V" (WiE) has compiled seven tips on its website on what measures administrators and WEG members should observe at an owners' meeting.

Especially when important decisions have to be made in a WEG, it is advisable to hold a meeting as soon as possible. WiE advises managers to extend the invitation period to three weeks. This enables WEG members who cannot attend the meeting to deal with the agenda well enough to issue a proxy with instructions on how to vote. To this end, it is important that the administrator provides sufficient information on the items on the agenda. Only on this basis can WEG members make a decision in advance on how to vote on their behalf.

The respective Corona protection ordinances of the federal states also specify when masks may be required or which data of the participants may be recorded in order to be able to trace back possible infections with the COVID 19 virus (requirement of "traceability" and data protection). Measures such as observing distance rules or regular ventilation of the premises are also part of the protective measures in a WEG assembly. The guide "What condominium owners need to know in the Corona crisis", compiled by WiE, also contains further information for condominium owners on all important issues and applicable rules of conduct in WEG meetings.
