This can be achieved with the right patio door. A generous glass front with floor-to-ceiling windows, for example, not only creates a far-reaching view and ensures great light incidence and bright rooms, but also connects the interior with the exterior. In addition, when closed, it ideally provides security and good insulation.
Basically, there are three types of patio doors. Depending on how much space the opening of a door can take up and which visual characteristics are to be fulfilled, a patio door can be slid, swung or folded. While a lift-and-slide door is easy to move and is characterized above all by the fact that it requires very little space when opening, a swing or stop door requires an angle of up to 90 degrees inward to open. This is also very well insulated and inexpensive to purchase. Folding-sliding doors consist of different glass elements and can be unfolded and folded like an accordion. These are suitable above all for wide terraces and offer an interesting appearance. However, they have rather poor insulating properties.
The choice of the frame also plays an important role in the patio door. This should be stable, provide good protection against sound and breakage of eggs and be well insulated, so that the heat from the house does not get outside and the heat inside. Patio door frames can be made of plastic, wood or aluminum construction with a wooden core. The most cost-effective and easy-to-clean option is offered by a plastic frame, which also has good insulating properties and is particularly durable. Wood also has the best insulating properties due to its low thermal conductivity. However, a frame made of wood must be additionally protected against moisture, frost and sunlight, as wood is very susceptible to weathering. The best materials and properties are offered by window frames made of a wood-aluminum construction, but the costs are correspondingly high.
