Resilience: Association of cities and municipalities in favor of bunker construction

The Association of Towns and Municipalities is calling for the construction of new shelters. The current number of 600 operational public shelters is insufficient, as they only offer protection for around 500,000 people. It is therefore necessary to make disused bunkers usable again and to build new shelters.

In view of the changed security situation caused by the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, Dr. André Berghegger, Managing Director of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities (DStGB), emphasizes the need to strengthen Germany's resilience. In an interview with FUNKE Mediengruppe, he explained that security can no longer be taken for granted.

The Chief Executive calls for an annual investment of at least one billion euros to protect the civilian population. In order to effectively warn the population of dangers, a mix of digital and analog warning instruments is required. In addition, awareness of the need for self-sufficiency in the event of a disaster must be increased, for which the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance provides appropriate information and checklists.source and further information: dstgb.de/spiegel.de
