How can vibrations of extremely large wooden ceilings of over eight meters be reduced? Patrica Hamm, a lecturer at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Project Management at Biberach University of Applied Sciences (HBC), is investigating this question. Together with master's students Johannes Ruf and Valentin Knöpfle and the project partner, Primin Jung Deutschland GmbH, she wants to develop a vibration-optimized ceiling system for large spans.
The students tested their constellations created in this context in a warehouse of Max Wild GmbH in Berkheim. They performed almost 2,500 measurements under an approximately 150-square-meter ceiling field. To do this, they attached measuring points to the ceiling and generated vibrations in the room in various ways, for example by jogging on the spot. However, they were not yet satisfied with their constellations.
Therefore, they still created vibration dampers and integrated them. "This allowed us to significantly reduce the vibrations of the ceiling, although not completely stop them," says Patricia Hamm. The ceiling field has now been dismantled and the measurement results are being evaluated. The final results are expected by June 2023 at the latest.
