BSB: "More and more modernization projects are being postponed or abandoned altogether"

According to a survey by the Bauherren-Schutzbund, more and more modernization projects are being postponed or abandoned altogether. In August 2022, only 34.3 percent of the homeowners surveyed with a property that was 15 years old or older said they wanted to carry out modernization measures. About half a year earlier, the figure was still 50.2 percent.

In addition, more than half of respondents (54.9 percent) now rate the funding conditions for energy-efficient modernization as poor. Six months earlier, only 44 percent of respondents thought the subsidy conditions were poor. For the survey, 1,000 homeowners were interviewed in each of two periods.

In this context, BSB Managing Director Florian Becker criticizes the subsidy policy and "the abrupt reduction in subsidies for building renovation". It directly affects the investment opportunities of consumers, he said. "The government pulled the soil under the feet away from Selbstnutzern with modernization intention with this action in times of exploding prices and loan interest. The installation of a heat pump costs now again up to 6,000 euro more , so the managing director, who demands more money made available by the federation as well as a promotion framework with planning security.
